Major Thomas P. Shields

Major Thomas Shields graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1999 where he received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.

Upon graduation from college, he was accepted to Officer Candidate School through the OCC program and became a commissioned officer in August 2000.

Following completion of The Basic School in March of 2001, he reported to Adjutant’s School for MOS training.  Upon graduating from the Adjutant’s School in June 2001 he reported to First Battalion, Sixth Marines serving as the Battalion Adjutant.  While with First Battalion, Sixth Marines he trained at MWTC, in Bridgeport, CA; CAX 13-14 in 29 Palms, CA; then on a 7-month Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan.

In June 2003, he reported to Recruiting Station (RS) Detroit to serve as the Operation’s Officer, and Executive Officer.

In June 2007, he transferred to Quantico, VA to attend the Marine Corps’ Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS).

Upon graduation from EWS in May of 2008, he reported to Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as the Adjutant for the 11th Marine Regiment.  In January 2009, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq to serve as an advisor to the Iraqi Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration and Recruiting.  Upon his return from deployment he resumed duties as the Adjutant for the 11th Marine Regiment.

In June 2010, he reported to Washington D.C. for duty as the Adjutant, Marine Barracks Washington.  In April 2012, he assumed command as the Headquarters and Service Company Commander.  In December 2012, he graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Masters Professional Studies, Homeland Security Degree.  In May 2013,he graduated from the Marine Corps University’s Command and Staff Program.  Major Shields relinquished command of Headquarters & Service Company in June 2013.

In July 2013, he assumed command of the Detroit Military Entrance Processing Station in Troy, MI.

Major Shields’ personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one Gold Star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the recruiter ribbon.

Major Shields and his wife Holly live in South Lyon, MI with their two children, Brady and Reagan.
